APPROVAL OF AGENDA: Motion was
made, seconded and carried that the agenda by approved.
Motion to approve the minutes
of June 16th meeting was made, seconded and carried.
CORRESPONDENCE: Pamphlet on
Resource super Saturday was distributed. This takes place Sept 13th,
at the Presbytery of Genesee Valley Resource Center, “Stewardship Lifters”
9:30-11 a.m.
CLERK’S REPORT: No report
Examination of New Session
Member: Molly Corey. Everyone welcomed Molly. Motion to accept Molly,
seconded and carried. She will be ordained Sept 14th, during the
worship service.

MODERATOR’S REPORT: Pastor Sudi
made 5 hospital visitations, counseled 2, visitations 10, and communion to 4
shut-ins. Among the many committee meetings and preparations for her trip to
Thailand, Sudi has keep extremely busy. A motion was made to grant 2 weeks
study leave (Aug 19-Sept 4) plus 3 days off Sept 2-4), seconded and carried.
Pastor Jean Dimond will be the
emergency Pastor on call.
Sunday Aug. 24th,
Jr. High Mission Trip Presentation will take place for the sermon. Sunday Aug
31 Theological Education Sunday seminarian, “Anne Gardner” will be preaching the
Sermon, the Children’s sermon, Pastoral Prayer, Offertory Invitation and Closing
Prayer.
The office will be closed Aug
20-26 as Nancy will be out of town also.
Pastor Sudi handed out
literature on “Making Committees Work”, and “Points to Remember Before a
Meeting”, encouraging us all to read and digest.
COMMITTEE REPORTS:
ALTERNATIVE WORSHIP SERVICE-
Pat Will begin September 21. Committee requested a fundraiser to help with
the projector fund which is over $800. at present, with a goal of $2700,
including the laptop computer. Session passed the motion. We have an Irish
dance troop coming to the September service.
CHRISTIAN EDUCATION - John C. The OPC Christian Education Committee met on
Tuesday, August 5th, 2008. During this time together, the committee
planned the upcoming season of events. The focus was on coordination of a busy
and exciting fall program and Sunday School curriculum, beginning with the
September 7th Rally Day. This past summer we kept very busy with
Vacation Bible School and OPC’s first annual Youth Mission trip. Both were very
rewarding Christian experiences.
COMMUNICATIONS – Harry No
report
DISCIPLESHIP – Molly- A bulletin board is needed.
FELLOWSHIP- Carol- No report. Next meeting, Sept 8th.
FINANCE – Dick- Watching budget closely. Quarterly report was distributed
MEMBERSHIP – Pat H. – No report. Meeting will be held in Sept.
MISSION – Kristin – Pig roast going well. One pig has been donated by Waste
Management and Nancy Steedman. Potatoes, corn and cabbage being donated by
Robert Colby. We have volunteers baking cookies and baking brownies, and baked
beans. Ticket sales are going slow but now picking up. Announcements are
appearing in the local papers and a T-shirt was sent to Channel 13, for their
T-shirts of the week to air August 22nd. Our next meeting is Aug 24th
and
31st.
NOMINATING - Marian The Nominating Committee has completed its responsibility of
providing new members for the three OPC boards. There are two new members for
Session and Deacons and one new member for Trustees. Two new members have also
agreed to go on the Nominating Committee for 2009. The present committee will
take its final vote on the completed group this Thursday.
PERSONNEL – DuWayne No action
items
WORSHIP AND MUSIC – Pat E. Jean Weaver is improving and hopes to be back in her
director position sometime before Christmas. In the meantime, Bonnie Bush will
fill in as director.
Summer attendance has been steady, with many new faces in the
congregation.
Pastor Sudi will be away on vacation and study leave from August 18th
to September 4th. She will be visiting her family in Thailand. John
Goehle will fill the pulpit Sunday, August 24th, and a student from
CRDS will preach on Sunday August 31st. Her supply money was a
motion from the W&M committee to be $200 plus the loose offering to be donated
to the Theological Education Fund at CRDS. Motion passed.
PRESBYTERY – Written report from Bob Wallace
A special meeting of Presbytery was held to act on increased activities of
the Presbytery on July 22, at Corfu Presbyterian Church. The following are the
highlights of the meeting.
Two candidates were presented for approval of ordination to ministry of
word and sacrament. In addition they were called to Covingto Presbyterian
Church and Holley Presbyterian Church.
One additional Pastor was called to Third Presbyterian Church.
There were four departures of Pastors from PGV; Dan McCollister resigned from
the Caledonia Stone church. Ralph English resigned from our neighboring church
in Gates. Lynn Rubier-Capron resigned from Stone Bergen, and our former Pastor
Mike Capron resigned his position at Christ Clarion to assume the position as
Pastor in Hopewell, New Jersey.
A discussion was scheduled on the docket for the 2008 summer of
discernment. This involved the total process to install a co-presbyter in PGV
to serve with Linda Badger Becker as the other co-Presbyter, sue to the
scheduled docket time that was one hour earlier for this discussion, the
discussion was rescheduled for the docket of the special meeting of the
Presbyter of Genesee Valley on August 26 at Bare Center Presbyterian Church.
